Wikipedia | Google | Google Images | FlickrDubbed as the pride of Cagayan de Oro and the biggest shopping mall in the city, Limketkai Mall is developed and managed by the Limketkai Sons, Inc. The mall is strategically located at the heart of the city’s business district, at a commercial complex spanning over 40 hectares in Barangay Lapasan. The two-story mall with a gross floor area of 135,000 sq0 feet houses over 500 store outlets, restaurants, food stalls, and locally owned establishments. Even though Limketkai Mall is an independent shopping district (unlike SM and Ayala), the mall still anchors major brands such as Robinsons’s Supermarket, Robinson’s Department Store, and Shopwise.
The Limketkai Mall has been constantly renovated and expanded since its opening in 1992. It started as an open-air shopping district and was developed into a 2-story, fully air-conditioned mall in the early 2000s in order to compete with other popular malls in the city. The mall also started with 4 cinemas and is currently being renovated in order to accommodate more guests. There will also be an addition of two more cinemas, and rumors about having an IMAX theater.
VisitingThe mall features different kinds of high-end store outlets, designer boutiques, and an atrium at the heart of the complex. The atrium can accommodate over 3,500 people and is where most concerts and events in the city are held. Right at the crossing of the four wings is also a small rotunda where small events and promotions happen. Limketkai Mall has also a number of gaming arcade outlets and rides for kids.
Another towering sight beside the mall is the Limketkai Luxe Hotel, the golden tower (literally shining during the day), is one of the most exclusive, world-class hotels in Northern Mindanao. The hotel connects to the main building of the mall and the Gateway Park through a series of sky bridges.
Dining and NightlifeJust outside the Limketkai Mall is one of the popular nightlife destinations in the city, the Rosario Arcade. The commercial strip is an alfresco area that houses upscale restaurants and bars. Currently, another newly constructed strip has been added called the Gateway Park which is where the Coffee Bean, Siam Thai restaurant, and Shakey’s Pizza Restaurant are located.
Getting ThereThe Limketkai Mall is easily accessible by public transportation such as jeepneys and taxis from anywhere in the city. If you’re coming from Laguindingan International Airport, the airport shuttles going to the city has a station outside of the mall. Most of the jeepneys in the port area are also bound for Limketkai Mall.
