Wikipedia | Google | Google Images | FlickrNavagio or Shipwreck beach is probably one of the most famous places in Greece and the most popular destination on the island of Zakynthos. Its grandeur and picturesque beauty have earned Navagio its fame, and as a result, thousands of curious tourists and nature lovers flock to visit this miracle of nature. What most of these people don't know is that it's a bit tricky to reach the beach from any of Zakynthos’ resorts.
For this reason, we decided to give you some short, quick-to-read instructions and advice on how to get to Navagio. If you want to learn more about this topic check out this detailed guide with driving routes to the beach.
The first thing that you need to know is that all the resorts and towns on Zante are located in the south and east parts of the island, while Shipwreck beach is in the northwestern area. Another important fact is that the beach can be reached ONLY by boat since it is surrounded by massive cliffs.
So how do you get there?
There are a few ways, but here we will give you the simplest and most convenient options.
The first option would be to rent a car, motorcycle, or a quad bike and drive to Porto Vromi, a small port on the brink of the beach. Here you can hop on a boat which will take you to the beach itself. Depending on where on the island you are staying, the distance that you need to cross will vary. If you choose this option, keep in mind that the heat on Zakynthos is no joke, and make sure to bring plenty of water as well as some snacks.
The second option is to get on a cruise around the island which goes to Navagio and back. These boat trips start from Zakynthos Town, Agios Nikolaos beach, or Skinari, and will make a pit stop at a very cool spot called Blue Caves before they ultimately reach Navagio beach. The simplest way for all those who are interested in this option would be to take an agency-organized tour. This will include a bus from your accommodation to one of the ports, and of course the cruise itself. The whole adventure can last from 4-8 hours.
Getting to this beach might look like a lot of hassle at first, but from experience, we can tell you that it is definitely worth it. It would be a real pity to miss the opportunity to experience such a miraculous place, and we urge you to awaken your inner explorer and give this one a go.
